Raising nearly $490,000, Democratic Rep. Susie Lee led Nevada’s congressional candidates in third-quarter fundraising, followed by fellow Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford, who raised a little more than $300,000. Though nearly a dozen Republicans have jumped at the chance to unseat each, the two incumbents have thus far reliably outraised a Republican field that has leaned heavily on candidate loans.

In swingy District 3, which encompasses roughly the southern half of Clark County, Lee must defend a district won by Donald Trump in the 2016 election by one percentage point but that she won by 9 points two years later. In neighboring District 4, at least seven Republicans have jumped into the race to challenge Horsford, who’s finishing out a second, non-consecutive term as congressman after losing the seat in the 2014 midterms.

In addition to raising the most, Lee also ended the quarter with the most money spent and the most cash left on hand — $139,000 and $1.1 million, respectively. Of her total raised, nearly $304,000 came from individual donations, with another $134,000 coming from political action committees.

And though all Republican candidates combined managed to outraise Lee — $537,000 compared to a little less than $490,000 — nearly half of that Republican total came from candidate loans.

Just two of her four Republican challengers, former treasurer Dan Schwartz and ex-pro wrestler Dan Rodimer, managed to post six-figure fundraising totals, though each boosted their haul with substantial loans to their campaigns. Schwartz raised roughly $264,000, with $66,000 spent and another $197,000 cash on hand, while Rodimer brought in $251,000, with $38,000 spent and $212,000 cash on hand.

But for Schwartz, just $84,000 of his total came from individual contributions, with the remaining $180,000 coming from a candidate loan. Rodimer, though he raised more than $186,000 in individual contributions, also spent $65,000 on a candidate loan to his campaign.

Other Republican candidates, including real estate agents Tiger Helgelien — who yesterday filed to drop out of the race — and doctor Annette Teijeiro, raised comparably little. Helgelien brought in a little more than $12,000, with $4,000 spent and $8,000 cash on hand, while Teijeiro raised $10,000, with $15 spent and $10,000 left on hand.

In District 4, Horsford by far outpaced his Republican rivals in money spent and cash on hand, with $135,000 and $153,000 respectively. Unlike Lee, however, nearly half of Horsford’s total raised — $142,000 — came from PAC spending, with the remaining $158,000 coming from individual contributions.

Of the Republicans whose filings have become publicly available, just one — former Miss Nevada Lisa Song Sutton — raised more than five-figures. In total, Song Sutton ended the quarter with $127,000, including $28,000 spent and $99,000 cash on hand.

Song Sutton was followed by veteran and former congressional aide Charles Navarro, who raised roughly $80,000, with $20,000 spent and $76,000 left on hand, and former Assemblyman Jim Marchant, who raised $58,000, with $51,000 spent and $92,000 cash on hand.

That total is a stark drop for Marchant, who led second-quarter fundraising among Republicans with $118,000.

Other Republicans followed closely behind, including small-business owner Randi Reed, who raised $47,000, spent $6,600 and has $40,000 cash on hand; Nye County Commissioner Leo Blundo, who raised $45,000, spent $17,000 and has $28,000 cash on hand; and nurse Catherine Prato, who raised $29,000, spent $1,000 and has $28,000 cash on hand.

Congressional District 1

Democratic Rep. Dina Titus, who represents District 1, raised $98,983 since July and has spent $55,333, leaving her with more than $308,000 cash on hand, or about $43,000 more than what she had on hand at the beginning of the quarter.

About 49 percent of contributions to her campaign, or $48,250, came from PACs. Contributions from individuals amounted to $50,733.

Her campaign committee spent $6,585 each month of the quarter on a fundraising consultant, as well as $6,400 in digital consulting fees over that period.

No other candidates for Titus’ seat appear to have filed reports with the FEC for the quarter.

Congressional District 2

In District 2, Republican Rep. Mark Amodei reported raising more than $91,000 in this quarter, while spending $110,000 — the only member of the congressional delegation to spend more than they brought in over the three-month fundraising period.

With more than $246,000 in cash on hand, his campaign’s amount in the bank has decreased by $20,000 since the end of the last quarter in July.

Amodei’s campaign has raised almost $300,000 and spent more than $412,000 during the current election cycle. Over half of his contributions, almost $54,000, were made by individuals, while the remaining $37,000 came from PACs.

Amodei still substantially outraised likely Democratic opponents, including his 2018 general election opponent Clint Koble. Koble, who is mounting another bid, reported raising more than $23,000 and spending $21,600 during the October fundraising period, and has just $403 in available cash on hand at the end of the reporting period.

This story was updated at 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2019 to include information on campaign finance filings for Rep. Dina Titus and Rep. Mark Amodei.
