If you were paying any attention to Nevada news this week, you know President Donald Trump paid Reno a visit on Wednesday.

But did you know Democratic Reps. Jacky Rosen and Ruben Kihuen spoke about a pressing health-care problem in Nevada? Or that Republican Sen. Dean Heller talked about immigration at a Las Vegas breakfast event? Or how about that Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto walked the hallways of two rural hospitals?

Yes, politicians of all parties and rank were on the move in the Silver State over the past few days. Nevada’s delegates are putting their August recess to good use and logging plenty of face-to-face time with their constituents.

Here’s a rundown of their activities this past week, as told through their media releases. As always, we kept the actual punctuation and capitalizations within the news release subject lines.

CATHERINE CORTEZ MASTO

Number of press releases issued this week: 12

The details: Like other members of the Nevada delegation, Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto continued using her August recess to make pit stops around the state.

The 11 media releases issued by her communications team reflect those visits. She joined a bevy of other lawmakers at the 21st annual Lake Tahoe Summit, where she not only vowed to preserve the famed body of water but also touched on protecting Nevada’s national monuments and combating climate change.

From there, she made her way to Lovelock and Winnemucca to tour the Pershing and Humboldt General Hospitals. Cortez Masto used her visits to the rural hospitals to — you guessed it — advocate for strengthening the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid.

Cortez Masto’s rural tour continues Sunday and Monday as she visits Eureka, Baker, Austin and Ely. Her staff is hosting mobile office hours in those northern Nevada towns.

The senator also lashed out at Trump's decision to pardon Arizona's Sheriff Joe Arpaio, calling it "another example of his failed commitment to unite our country after the racist and hateful protests of neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville."

DEAN HELLER

Number of press releases issued this week: 5

The details: Republican Sen. Dean Heller was a man about town this week — or shall we say a man about the Silver State?

The majority of his media bulletins this week highlighted his public appearances all over Nevada. He spoke Tuesday at the 21st annual Lake Tahoe Summit, describing legislation to protect what he called the “Jewel of the Sierras.” Heller attended a Hispanics in Politics breakfast Wednesday in Las Vegas, where he outlined his policy priorities and championed a pathway to citizenship for people living in the country illegally. Several hours later, he was back in Reno, applauding Trump for signing a bill to help Nevada veterans.

Heller, who recently acknowledged that he voted for Trump, did not appear on stage with the president at the American Legion’s annual conference.

“The signing of the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act today is a win for Nevada’s warriors, and all men and women across the country who use the VA system,” Heller said. “This new law brings a much-needed overhaul to the appeals process, allowing Nevada’s veterans to receive proper and timely compensation for their war injuries.”

DINA TITUS

Number of press releases issued this week: 7

The details: Perhaps being back in town for the August recess has made Congresswoman Dina Titus extra supportive of the natural wonders surrounding Las Vegas.

Last week, her staff issued three land-related media releases, two of which concerned potential fee increases to enter Red Rock Canyon National Conservation and one blasting the the national monument review. Titus said the review lacked transparency and triggered more questions than answers.

The Democratic representative has been a vocal opponent of any changes to Nevada’s two national monuments — Gold Butte and Basin and Range — which were part of the federal review.

“Today I have filed an amendment to the Interior Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2018 which prohibits the Administration from making changes to designated national monuments,” she said in a statement. “Whatever this secret report says, I am committed to defending these important places from the attacks of the Trump Administration.”

And Friday night, after Trump pardoned Sheriff Joe Arpaio from Arizona, Titus released a statement condemning that decision.

"Trump's pardon of Arpaio doubles down on his racist behavior," she said in a statement. "Arpaio is not above the law and should pay his debt to society for the crimes he committed."

RUBEN KIHUEN

Number of press releases issued this week: 5

The details: Democratic Rep. Ruben Khuen’s media releases this week touched on a variety of hot-button issues in Southern Nevada — medical care, national monuments and the housing market.

Kihuen on Monday announced that he’s backing bipartisan legislation that could help reduce Southern Nevada’s doctor shortage. He said a friend, who has family in Nevada, ended up completing her residency at Duke Medical Center because of the lack of opportunities here.

“That is a very bright doctor that we lost to a very good medical center across the country,” he said at the news conference. “This is the type of situation we are trying to avoid by co-sponsoring this piece of legislation.”

His staff also issued a release Thursday admonishing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke for his lack of transparency regarding the monument review. (And, yes, for those of you paying attention to the subject lines below, it included a typo, which happens to the best of us. For the more casual readers, can you catch it?)

Last but not least, Kihuen announced he’s hosting a housing event Saturday to help people who are struggling to pay their mortgages. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pearson Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave., in North Las Vegas.

JACKY ROSEN

Number of press releases issued this week: 4

The details: Congresswoman Jacky Rosen’s press team churned out for media releases this week, two of which touted public appearances.

Rosen appeared alongside her Democratic peer, Rep. Ruben Kihuen, on Monday to announce their support for bipartisan legislation that would address Southern Nevada’s physician shortage. Two days later, she toured a garden program at Desert Oasis High School, although the release mistakenly called it “Desert Oaks High School.”

She also issued a statement about President Donald Trump’s plan to ban transgender people from the military. Rosen signed a letter to Defense Secretary James Mattis, urging him not to comply with the president’s request.

“President Trump’s decision to proceed with this discriminatory ban on transgender Americans serving in the Armed Forces goes against our country’s core values and our commitment to full equality,” Rosen said in her statement. “At a time when we need to be increasing our military readiness, President Trump has decided to institute an unsound policy based on prejudice that will only jeopardize our national security.”

MARK AMODEI

Number of press releases issued this week: 1

The details: Congressman Mark Amodei’s nearly two-month streak of not issuing a media release is over. Earlier this week, he announced via news bulletin that he’s hosting a veterans’ town hall Tuesday in Minden.

"This town hall meeting is an opportunity for veterans to come out and discuss challenges, offer suggestions, and address their concerns – free of any agenda,” Amodei stated in the release. “In addition to thanking them for their service, this will also be a chance for veterans to speak with VA representatives and hear more about the assistance my office can provide. If you’re a veteran in the area, I encourage you to come out to learn about the ways we can best serve you.”

The location isn’t far from Gardnerville, where Amodei is expected to be Saturday for the Basque Fry.
