Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris is building out her Nevada team, including one longtime aide to former Senate Leader Harry Reid, as she prepares to make her first trip to Northern Nevada of her 2020 presidential bid next week.

Megan Jones, a longtime Democratic operative in the state and a Reid adviser, will serve as a senior adviser to Harris, and Ernesto Apreza, who served as deputy communications director on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign in Colorado in 2016, will join the team as Nevada state director.

“I’m excited to be part of the team Senator Harris is building all over the country,” Jones said in a statement. “It is a dynamic, diverse, values-based campaign that is driven by Senator Harris’s powerful voice and vision. She has what it takes to win and I am dedicated to helping her do just that in Nevada.”

Also joining the team are political director Gabriel Uy, a Nevada Army National Guard member who worked in Reid’s office for several years; deputy political director Lauren Brooks, who recently served as an adviser on U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen’s and Lt. Gov. Kate Marshall’s campaigns; and organizing director Christiana Ho, who most recently was states program manager and deputy western political and organizing director at the Democratic National Committee.

Other already announced members of Harris’s national campaign team with Nevada ties include senior adviser Emmy Ruiz, who was Clinton’s Nevada state director in 2016, and deputy national field director Anatole Jenkins, a regional organizing director on Clinton’s Nevada campaign in 2016.

Harris joins a handful of presidential candidates, including fellow Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker and Bernie Sanders, who have already started staffing up in the state.

Harris returns to Nevada on Tuesday for her second trip to the Silver State since launching her presidential campaign in January. She will hold a roundtable with teachers in Carson City before headlining Battle Born Progress’s Celebrate Progress Event.

Earlier this month, she hosted a standing room-only town hall at Canyon Springs High School in North Las Vegas.
