PHOTOS: A global pandemic has slowed but not stopped life on the normally bustling Las Vegas Strip

March usually brings its own kind of madness to Las Vegas Boulevard.

Spring-break revelers and college-hoops enthusiasts generally pack casinos up and down the Strip, as warming temperatures invite tourists needing a respite from harsher winter weather elsewhere. But the novel coronavirus — officially declared a pandemic last week by the World Health Organization — has thrown a severe wrench in travel plans worldwide.

For now, casinos remain open in Las Vegas, but they're not operating at full capacity. Gaming companies have announced temporary shutdowns of spas, theaters, nightclubs and buffets at certain properties. Some of those closures are already in effect; others begin Monday.

And yet life hasn't come to a complete halt on the Las Vegas Strip. Photographer Jeff Scheid spent Saturday afternoon walking the famous boulevard. Here's what he found:
