Lawmakers advanced a contentious measure, AB286, aimed at banning the manufacture, possession or sale of unfishished frames or receivers of firearms that do not come with an imprinted serial number. These so-called “ghost guns” are also subject to a crackdown by the Biden administration.

Another measure, SB452, aimed to allow major casino resorts to become gun-free zones, similar to firearm prohibition rules on school campuses. But it failed to advance out of the Assembly after narrowly passing the Senate on an 11-10 vote. The bill was staunchly opposed by firearm advocates and criminal justice reform advocates, who said it would be used to target minority communities.
