Jim Hindle remains the top elections official in rural Storey County, despite being indicted in December 2023 on felony forgery charges for his role as one of six Republicans who falsely pledged Nevada’s electoral votes to former President Donald Trump following the 2020 election.
A year and a half after Hindle participated in a fake signing ceremony with five other Nevada Republicans attempting to overturn Trump’s loss to Democrat Joe Biden, he won an election to become the clerk-treasurer in Storey County, where Trump beat Biden in 2020 by a margin of 31 points with fewer than 3,000 votes recorded.
In his role, Hindle is responsible for conducting elections in Storey County — a jurisdiction of less than 4,000 voters. Hindle told The Associated Press he will continue in that position, though he faces charges that could land him in prison for up to nine years.
